The Ladies had two games at the weekend and lost their first match on Saturday against Southend, with Olivia Hewitt picking up a nasty head injury. However, on the Sunday they bounced back from being 3-0 down at half time to snatch a 5-4 victory against Crostyx and keep alive their hopes of remaining in Division 1 South.
The Ladies 2nd XI pulled off a 2-0 win against Broxbourne and if they manage to secure a win against Bishop’s Stortford at the weekend they should finish safely mid-table.
Relegation beckons though for both the Ladies 3rd & 4th XI.
Letchworth Ladies 4th XI played fellow strugglers Cheshunt 2nd XI, in Div 5 of the 5 Counties League, at Turnford School on Saturday. The home side were on top for much of the first half but from a rare break, Letchworth took the lead when Alice Lawman put the finishing touch to Lesley Cave’s penetrating run & well struck cross. After the break, both teams worked hard to take control of the midfield but with Geri White, Caroline Nicholson & Lesley Cave breaking up Cheshunt’s attacks & Lucy Mucha opening up their defence, it was no surprise when Cheshunt conceded a penalty. Lesley Cave coolly slotted her flick past the visitors’ goalkeeper but Cheshunt rallied again. Seconds from the final whistle they caught the Letchworth defence flat footed to score a consolation goal. This victory lifts Letchworth off the bottom of the table but next week they have to face champions-elect St Albans.
